Cisco product family
Cisco Nexus Series switching
Data center
Top-of-rack, leaf-and-spine and modular switching built for data center fabrics.
Nexus is Cisco's data center switching line, not a bigger version of Catalyst. It's built specifically for data center fabric designs — top-of-rack and leaf-and-spine topologies that Catalyst campus switches aren't engineered for — running NX-OS rather than the IOS-XE used across the Catalyst line.
If you're wiring an office or a campus building, Catalyst is the right product; if you're building or expanding an actual data center network fabric, Nexus is. We help confirm which one your project actually needs before quoting, since the two lines solve different problems despite sharing a parent brand.
- Fixed switches for top-of-rack or spine-and-leaf designs
- Modular chassis options for large-scale spine and aggregation layers
- Separate product line from Catalyst — built for the data center, not the campus LAN
Best for: Businesses building or expanding a data center network, not a campus or branch LAN.
